Under the direct supervision of the Senior Driver, overall supervision of the Procurement and Logistics Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: 


Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Drive IOM office vehicle(s) in a manner which fully adheres to the laws of Uganda, which provides safety and security to IOM staff, is considerate to other road users and which preserves the condition of the vehicle.
  2. Ensure absolute adherence to IOM’s rules and regulations in respect to the use of vehicles including informing management of any unauthorized use of the vehicles, theft or misuse of fuel, theft of car parts or other items kept in the car.
  3. Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness of the vehicles. This includes daily check of tyres, brakes, engine oil, fan belt etc.
  4. Assist with minor repairs and ensure that the vehicles are kept clean.
  5. Make sure that the vehicles undertake regular service intervals.
  6. Make sure the vehicles always have full tank prior to departure for field trips.
  7. Find the most direct routing over the best available roads to the destinations.
  8. Ensure that the IOM vehicle(s) is used only for official/authorised business, reporting any abuse of the vehicle by other IOM staff members (or other person) to the supervisor AND to the Chief of Mission
  9. Ensure daily cleaning of IOM vehicle(s) of both exterior and interior.
  10. Obligatory filling of the vehicle log sheet each day.
  11. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding discussion overheard while in the vehicle or when undertaking confidential tasks allocated by a relevant authority 
  12. Collect and deliver mail / documents as assigned by relevant authority.
  13. Observe traffic rules and regulations as well as IOM’s regulations in case of involvement of in a traffic accident.
  14. Perform any other duties as assigned by a relevant authority.
    Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Completed a high school degree/Certificate with two years of relevant experience or completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid and clean driving license (A,B, DL,DM and DH classes)
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and repairs is an added advantage
  • Good knowledge and working experience with VHF radios
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications
